Degree programmes
The education offered by SAMK is organized in degree programmes. A degree programme concentrates on a given area of professional expertise and further may be divided into specialisation lines.

The extent of a degree programme is measured by credits. The work by the student during one academic year equals to 1600 hours. This work may be independent study, lectures, or any other form of work. The expected average amount of work from a student during an academic year is 60 credits if s/he is to proceed at the normal pace. The extent of a degree programme is either 210, 240 or 270 credits corresponding to 3,5 - 4,5 years of full-time study. Degree programmes consist of basic studies, professional studies, optional studies, work placement and a bachelor's thesis. Students learn the main areas, focuses, functions and applications in their field of expertise and familiarize themselves with theoretical and practical fundamentals. The degree programmes also include communication and language studies and a compulsory on-the-job training period.

At the moment there are 22 bachelor degree programmes, three of them are offered fully in English: bachelor degrees in Physiotherapy, International Business and Marketing Logistics and Environmental Engineering (last intake in 2003).

Degree programmes lead to a Finnish "ammattikorkeakoulututkinto" equalling to the first degree in the European Union three cycle system (bachelor-master-doctor). Annually SAMK awards 900-1000 degree certificates to graduates.

Post-graduate degrees introduced
Ministry of Education has awarded Satakunta University of Applied Sciences the right to experiment with postgraduate degrees. Currently SAMK offers postgraduate degrees in three fields: welfare technology, care of the elderly and development of business operations. The extent of studies required for a master's level degree after the bachelor's degree is 60-90 credits. Taking account of both degrees the SAMK master's level degree equals to 300-330 credits, whereas the extent of master's degree in traditional universities equals to 240-270 credits.
